Strenght and Weakness by Element[]
There are 5 Elements in the game. They are: Fire, Nature, Water, Dark, and Light.
- Fire beats Nature
- Nature beats Water
- Water beats Fire
- Dark beats Light
- Light beats Dark
The superior element deals boosted damage against the inferior element, and takes less damage from it (Light and Dark only do boosted damage versus each other). The inferior element cannot land a critical hit (CRIT) against the superior element. So Fire can't CRIT Water, Water can't CRIT Nature and so on. But Light and Dark can CRIT each other.
You should try and have element advantage as well as class advantage in your Dungeon Raid (PvP), The Tower of Pwnage, and Campaign. Read more about Elements by following the link to the main article.

Attack Speed[]
In Dungeon Boss all Heroes and Enemies are in one of the three attack speed categories:
- Fast: These Heroes have the Fast trait. They attack first.
- Normal speed: These Heroes have neither the Fast nor the Slow trait and attack after the Fast opponents but before the Slow opponents.
- Slow: These Heroes have the Slow trait. They attack last but get a special slow boost
Hunters[]
Several Heroes deal boosted damage against a specific Class. They all own a trait called "... Hunter", like Armor Hunter, or have the trait File:??pwn undead (max 2)?? ??pwn undead (max 2)??. These Heroes are listed in the Hunter category.
The boosted damage against a class stacks with the boosted damage against an Element. As a result of this some Heroes deal a huge amount of damage vs specific Enemies and other Heroes.
For example Lady Nimriel gets a Element bonus of +30% (=multiplier of x1.3), and double damage (x2) against the Tank Phemus because of her trait Tank Hunter. So her damage vs the Nature Hero Phemus is multiplied by 1.3 x 2 = x2.6.
Fire Beasts like Torchy, Lupina, Mangle Jaw and Pignius Maximus will be in trouble when Sir William attacks them because he is a Fire Hunter and a Beast Hunter, and as a Water Hero he dominates Fire. His damage is multiplied by x1.5, x2 and x1.3 to a total multiplier of x3.9 for damage.

- Weak Spot (Trait) - Black Diamond, Ella Ametryst
- Increased CRIT Multiplier by [50%], percentage increases slightly with SKL. (Does not stack with the buff of the same name.)
- Welcomed Fever (Trait) -
- Instead of inflicted with the penalties from Disease, this hero is empowered with increased ATK, CRIT and additional healing when inflicted with Disease.
- Wrath (Trait) - Malice
- Damage increases as health of target decreases.

Disabling Attacks[]
Energy Drain[]
In Dungeon Boss some Heroes have the ability to drain energy. This energy is needed to use the Hero's special attack. Ekko's Team Energy Vault protect Heroes from energy drain, and Dagrund Blacksmoke, Ekko, and Indigo (on CRITs only) can restore energy.

- Summons Zomminions (Slow, Dark, Undead skeletons) if there are dead allies at the start of Zomm's turn.

- Purging Smash (Special Attack) -
- Melee Physical attack for [100% ATK] base damage and removes the one buff from the target. The first buff applied is removed.
- Smite (Special Attack) - Augustus
- Melee Physical attack that purges Buffs and deals boosted damage against Demons.
- Sniper Shot (Special Attack) - Willow Swift
- Critical Armor-Piercing Ranged Physical attack that purges 1 Buff.
- Soul Shred (Special Attack) - Tsume
- Ranged Physical attack on all enemies twice that purges 1 Buff on hit.
- Theft of Grace (Special Attack) - Malice
- Melee Spirit attack for [150% ATK] base damage, will purge up to [1/2/3] buffs on target and add [1/2/3] elemental buffs to all allies. The number of purged and added buffs depends on the rank (I/II/III) of this special attack. The elemental buffs are I=Hunter, II=Resistance, III=Touch. The elemental buffs will be the same type as the target. Example: If a Dark enemy is attacked the buffs will be: Dark Rancor I, Disease Resistance, and Disease Touch.
Defense[]
While there are several Heroes who have a trait that boosts damage vs a specific class there are also traits that protect them from a specific class, like King Yorick's Rogue Defense, or Augustus' Holy Shroud which reduce the damage dealt against them.
Example: If a fully ascended King Yorick gets shot by Lady Nimriel he suffers -50% damage due Rogue Defense and another -25% element damage reduction, because he is a Water Hero attacked by Lady Nimriel, a Fire Hero.
But there are even more sophisticated defenses like Icebloom's Unbreakable Heart, Icepick's Spontaneous Cover, and Pontifex Mortis' Reincarnate.
There are also Hero traits like Icebloom's Icy Embrace or Ekko's Team Energy Vault that protect the whole team passively from a debuff. See the section Synergies below for a complete list of passive buffs.
One Hero's strength is the other Hero's weakness. Many Rogues and Beasts can dodge deadly blows in combat thanks to the File:??shifty (max 1)?? ??shifty (max 1)?? ability. While this can ensure their survival the ability Perfect Swing nullifies the dodge effect. Dwarfs and Samurais have this trait and it makes them immune to Shifty and Dazed debuff.
There are also known Enemies who have a similar ability for range attacks: Steady Shot. The lovely Lady Valentine is a perfect archer and her arrow never misses its target. Don't bother to daze such enemies with Yokozuna's Sumo Stomp. It won't help.

- Avoids death from the first death blow, health will stay at 1 HP. NOTE: There is also a identically named Buff in the game. Runes can add this Trait. Shield-piercing attacks ignore Unbreakable Heart.

- If killed when defending others, he will reincarnate on the next turn with +ATK and +DEF.
Taunt - Protect the Weak[]
Most Tanks have a Taunt ability to protect their allies. Taunt is a special attack, that does not inflict any damage but forces the enemies to attack the Tank. Because Taunt is a buff it can be removed by counter special atttacks like Willow Swift's Sniper Shot. See Attack/Purging Attacks above for more.
Also attacks that hit multiple targets (AoE attacks) like Samurai Takumi's Frost Katana will bypass Taunt and hurt the Taunter's allies. The trait Challenge Accepted deals boosted damage vs Taunters, while Phemus ignores enemy taunt.

Synergies[]
A Hero can get passive buffs when teamed up with other Heroes. These buffs are given through the Element (Fire/Nature/Water/Light/Dark) and Class (All/Armored/Beast/Construct/Caster/Dwarf/Demon/Elf/Goblin/Mushroom/Rogue/Warrior/Undead) of the hero.
- All Heroes get the following passive buffs:
- Adept Strikes (Trait) - Serenity
- Allies and self gain Haste after using a single target Melee Physical attack once per round.
- Critical Energy (Trait) - Indigo
- Grants team +1 Energy on CRITs.
- Cleansing Aura (Trait) - Dagrund Blacksmoke, Kelpy Shells
- If the Hero can act at the end of the round, cleanses 1 Debuff on all allies.
